CFD Analysis to Optimize Flow Distribution in a Baghouse Filter System

Project Overview: T Solutions India (TSI) conducted CFD simulation to study the flow distribution in a Baghouse Filter and to check if the velocity and pressure in the system are appropriate and within limits.

Introduction: Baghouse filters are used to reduce the emission of pollutants in the atmosphere. With the stricter environmental regulations and the need to avoid the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere, the demand for better results in terms of collection efficiency and filtration rises. A good performance of a baghouse filter is closely linked to the correct flow distribution inside it. To optimize the flow dynamics and separation of particles, to optimize the design of internals, and to ensure the effective performance, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation is a powerful tool.

Objective: The main objective of the CFD simulation was to study the flow distribution inside the baghouse filter and to evaluate the velocity inside the filters such that velocity is less than a desired value to ensure long operational life of bags.

CFD Analysis: The whole bag filter system was modelled using good quality fine mesh to resolve the flow physics accurately. The CFD analysis included a comprehensive examination of flow distribution, pressure across the system, and flow paths to prevent issues such as short-circuiting. CFD analysis predicted the velocity and pressure inside the system.

Result: The CFD study predicted the flow behavior inside the Baghouse filter and velocity inside the filter was found to be appropriate and within the required limits.
